Roll for Magruders request. Was the +1 for Scooby on the Spider for the killing shot? If so, Magruder actually finished off the Spider.

I had saved the battle transcript with the intention of looking up who killed who but it got erased when we did that battle afterwards for shits and giggles. If Magruder did indeed finish the Spider then yes, you would get the +1, and it looks like you needed it. So, unless anyone else wants it, and rolls higher than a modified 9, the Spider SDR-5K will be yours.

Kurt can have the mech, especially if it means he will actually fight instead of prancing around like a girly painter.

Were there any shield or weapon upgrades we could take from the mechs we captured? How would that work via the game mechanics?

Normally we would keep track of all 'Mech components (armor, internals, criticals, weapons, ammo, etc.) and use those for repair/refit on your own 'Mechs. That is an ass-load of paperwork and requires alot of player attention. I've decided to drop that aspect of the game to maximize fun.

The only way you can 'upgrade' your 'Mech is to capture a bigger, better 'Mech.

You can 'customize' your current 'Mech by selecting the 'Gifted Tech' Advantage at character creation, or the 'Refit Kit' Perk when/if you live long enough to gain experience points.

Eric,

I am looking to get a useful short range weapon to replace my missiles. Based on the universe and campaign, what would be the best RPing /in-game method for Heath to pursue such an upgrade? For instance, the SOB that shot me in the back last night had a really cool weapon that I would like to salvage if possible. Talk to me captain...

Pete,

You have several options available to you to change up your 'Mech.

1. You can use the 'Conversion Kit' perk that you earned last night for capturing Hubert Kurita to re-configure your Griffin. There are 2 other variants of that 'Mech that both increase short-range firepower at the expense of long-range firepower. They are the GRF-1S and the GRF-1RG. You can look up the stats of each by opening MegaMek, selecting 'Add a Combat Unit', filter by 'Medium' and they are in alphabetical order. Look carefully at all the changes, for instance the GRF-1RG has a lot more weapons but sacrifices jump capability.

2. You can try to request an upgrade like Kurt did to get his Spider. I will be posting what units were salvagable later on today.

3. You can use the 'Perk' you gained last night to get a bonus to your roll when your 'Mech eventually gets destroyed and possibly get a better 'Mech. (probably not what you want to do but it is still an option).

The AC/20 that the Hunchback fired into you last night is too big and complicated to strip from one 'Mech and slap on another. That whole 'Mech design is based around the cannon. In fact it is almost impossible (would require a prodigy Technician, and you don't happen to know any!) to move weapon systems from different 'Mech chassis designs in this era.
